Garden Wildlife

This year, for the first time in ages, we are occasionally able to just sit in the garden.   I have always found this difficult before, relaxing when the weeds are jumping out at us.  Now though, I have learnt to ignore them occasionally, even when they shout :-)
We have noticed that the birds are becoming more used to our presence.  I was told this would be the case and it is true.   When we were at work all day and dared to step into our garden, all the birds would fly away.   Now it is only the seagulls and rooks, the largest bird visitors to our garden that flee at the sight of us.
The smaller birds are becoming quite tame.

This pigeon plods around unperturbed by our presence
The sparrows are getting to know us.

The siskins and finches are emptying the bird feeders!   :-)

And my favourites, the young blackbirds, are all around the garden.
We have watched the parents feeding them.
This young blackbird has clearly learnt how to feed himself.
Today we watched him find worms and our strawberries :-)

Who?   Me?

I haven't managed to catch all our visitors on camera, we have wrens nesting and although I see them often, I have yet to have a camera in the garden with me at the same time.
Blue tits visit often too. Something to aim for over the coming months.

Dear Chris, I understand exactly what you mean about sitting in the garden - it takes a great effort of will to ignore the work which needs [so very often] to be done and simply enjoy one's surroundings. But, like you, I do believe that it is possible to exercise the necessary discipline.

Your garden is full of wonderful birds. That in itself must be a cause of celebration.

How wonderful to be able to enjoy the birdlife in your garden, and I love your photos.
while we had a cat we did not get birds in the garden. After our cat died we found the sparrows returned and now tiny wax eyes are feeding in the clematis outside the french door so we are able to sit and watch them

Lovely to see the birds are beginning to get used to you. I also find at this time of year the parents are so preoccupied that they are also much more willing to take risks and ignore you.

I've had some birds coming unsually close to me too, usually I leave the top of the garden to them and sit down by the house but we're getting Goldfinches and Sparrows coming down near me - wonderful surprise.

What a lovely assortment of birds! It's exciting to have them settle on the feeders when you are so close by isn't it :-)

Enjoy reading your blog !

Wild birds are so special aren't they and some become so very brave and friendly. Last year I was sitting reading at a table on the patio, when a wren came and sat on one of the pages. It stayed there for several minutes. I was tempted to stroke it's back - but, I didn't.

I enjoy listening to the dawn & evening chorus & the song of the blackbird is so soothing- as it returns me to childhood memories of being in the garden with my father.
