I had a half day off work today and so made the most of it. As I made breakfast the sky turned red and a huge black cloud drifted over. I thought it might rain again but it stayed away. The wind was cold but I don't mind that, I wrapped up and went out with my camera.

Sadly the snowdrops are not in my own garden but I know a place where they grow :-)
Stepping into my own garden though, birds sang all around me and robin watched closely.
I discovered the first of this year's frog spawn in our little pond. Last year it was eaten by something, maybe a heron, or even a fox! This year we will try to protect it. Any ideas?
I know its only January but it feels like spring is on the way :-)

Frog spawn already? I think spring has arrived there, Chris! Having the day off to walk with your camera is just heaven, isn't it? I'm glad the weather cooperated and you were able to share great photos with us.
Wonderful collage with the lovely snowdrops and the colourful sky! Frog spawn already now? That wouldn't happen here. We still have winter but with little signs of Spring too!
Have a nice weekend!
WOW frogspawn and snowdrops what alovely sight ,my the frogs have been busy ,we loved to see the progression from spawn to tadpoles to tiny little frogs hopping about all over the garden, I loved watching the kids faces and the squeales of delight as they let these tiny creatures jump on to their fingers!oh that takes me back a bit!love from Kathyann and the girls
Dear Chris,
Snowdrops! They are lovely. Your sky is gorgeous. So happy you were home and outside. It is where all the fun is!
Frog spawn is exciting. Can you "net cover" your pond? They do look like Heron food.
Yeah, for bird songs.
Maybe spring has not sprung for you just yet but she is coming!
Wonderful pictures.

Frogspawn & snowdrops ... how lovely. We have more snow :-} and the family is heading to the slopes :-}I'll be in the chalet reading gardening magazines and dreaming :-}
Have a wonderful weekend Chris xx
We're having Spring like weather. There are buds on some of the trees. This happened last year. We had a late freeze and the trees were in sad shape most of Spring.
I think they are predicting snow, for us, Tuesday.
The Snowdrops are beautiful. They certainly brightened my day!

My goodness that frogs spawn is really early! We had some early last year and lost the lot to the frost and the fish I believe! Still no sign of any here though!
What incredble sky pictures!!!
Still can't get over how early spring comes to you over there!!!
Hi there, Chris :-)
How great to see the signs of the garden waking up again although I don't expect winter has really finished with us yet! We are expecting snow in Scotland on Friday :-D
Chris what a beautiful picture of the sky .. you are so lucky to have frogs and snowdrops (even if they aren't in your garden !) ..
I'm very jealous : )
We are just recovering from another snow storm .. all my pictures have been of SNOW : (
Spring will come some month I hope!
Joy
PS Love the quote too !
I'd mirror the comments - frogspawn already! They're not hanging around in your garden then!! Thought it was time for a visit to your blog again - was over near Bristol last week seeing friends and now that I'm back here the weather has turned horrible again... not much different anywhere though!! Bon courage... Miranda
Thanks for your comments :-) The frogspawn has been laid around the same time as last year, this year we have tried to protect it a bit without harming the frogs. Our little wildlife pond may be warmer than larger ponds or lakes, perhaps that why the frogs spawn so early. Anyway spring is coming, the days are lengthening and preparations are under way :-)
