Beautiful Skies

Red sky at night
Shepherds Delight!
Red sky at morning
Shepherds warning!

Today we woke up to this beautiful sunrise. It was the most spectacular I have ever seen but it also makes me wonder how we will pay for it later. The day has grown steadily windier and colder. Winter is well and truly on its way.

Late Autumn

Autumn, if not winter, has arrived. The days are already quite short and it is definitely colder. Last night we had gales and I am surprised the leaves haven't been stripped from the trees.

It will soon be time to put the Christmas lights in the windows. I usually do this on 1st December, it helps to light us through the darkest month of the year. Then, when they come down in January we can already look forward to spring.

Come said the wind to the leaves one day,
Come o're the meadows and we will play.
Put on your dresses scarlet and gold,
For summer is gone and the days grow cold.

My Little Fruit & Veg Plot

Some time ago I put our names down for an allotment. To those of you who don't know, an allotment is a small piece of ground which is rented from the local council to grow your own produce. There are some restrictions, you cannot have glass houses on the plots but within reason you can grow what you like. We plan to have more fruit than veg. I love raspberries, blackberries, red currants etc and of course rhubarb.

Our little plot has been divided into three which does make it look easier to manage. I had to offer my husband some encouragement to come with me - I promised I would not complain once about Sky Sports in the afternoon if he dug in the morning. It worked a treat!

Now we just need plenty of manure :-) and we can wait for the spring.

Another Day Out!

Last Tuesday we went to Westonbirt Arboretum for the day. It took about two hours from home but we had a good clear run. It was however much colder than we have become used to and I wished I had taken more clothing! We had expected more autumn colours but with the season so late many of the trees were still green. The red acers however did not let us down. Here are some of my favourite pics.
